  • Ingredients

    Glycerol B.P. (British Pharmacopoeia grade).
Does NOT contain: Wheat, gluten, egg, nuts, seeds, dairy, soy, additives and preservatives.

  • Dispensing Suggestion

In a 100mL herbal formula, 10-20mL of Glycerol B.P. would be a suitable amount.

Glycerol B.P. is a great companion product for dispensing. Glycerol B.P. is a clear liquid that is used to sweeten the taste of herbal extract formulae, making them more palatable for your clients, thus helping with compliance. This is the same glycerol that is used in our popular Practitioner Quality Compounds range.

Main Product Attributes
A guide to Glycerol and its properties
  • Overview

Glycerol B.P. is a clear, slightly viscous liquid that is soluble in water and compounds well with herbal extracts. The dose, and therefore the sweetness, can be easily adjusted to suit each individual. Glycerol B.P. is suitable for everyone, including children. Glycerol also acts as a preservative.
Glycerol has approximately 4.3 calories/gram, where sugar has about 4 calories/gram. Despite having a higher en-ergy load than sugar, glycerol actually has a much lower glycaemic index due to being metabolised through the fats and lipids metabolic pathway. This is unlike sugar which is digested via the carbohydrate metabolic pathway. Glyc-erol undergoes a much lengthier, slow-burning metabolic process

  • What is sustainable palm oil?

Some of you will be familiar with the devastating effects the palm oil industry is having on the forests and wildlife in countries like Malaysia and Indonesia. Palm trees, and their raw materials, have been considered a cheap commodity, due to the tree’s ability to grow very quickly and provide a versatile raw material that can be used in many food and non-food industries (e.g. cosmetics). This has lead to an increased demand for palm oil, and for forest land to be exploited and destroyed to create space for expanding palm oil farming and production.
Developing sustainable growth and production methods of palm oil have been introduced by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). RSPO is a non-profit organisation that promotes the use of sustainable palm oil products through the implementation of credible global standards on palm tree growth and use. RSPO collaborated with WWF to develop strategies around land-use planning, working with governments in both producer and market countries, protecting species affected by the palm oil production and screening for investment into the palm oil industry.
The Herbal Extract Company supports the initiatives of the RSPO and WWF. We are proud to source our Glycerol B.P. through an RSPO-endorsed supply chain.

  • Caution

Doses of Glycerol equivalent to 20mL straight, or larger, can have a laxative effect.

Main Product Attributes
Overview

•    The extensively revised and updated 5th edition of the Phytotherapy Desk Reference has been published.
•    This book has been designed as a reliable desk reference for the busy herbalist/phytotherapist. It contains short, precise descriptions of 236 of the most commonly used herbs in Australia and New Zealand.
•    It is not an exhaustive materia medica describing the herbs in great detail. Practitioners not familiar with the herbs, should seek additional information elsewhere.
•    The intention is to provide practitioners with a limited number of reliable therapeutic actions with some reliable indications for each herb and with the information organised in such a way as to be a valuable clinical tool.
•    The short monographs also provide the main active constituents, the qualities of the herbs, known drug interactions and any caution or contraindications as well as the recommended dosage for liquid extracts.
•    As a quick reference index, the herbs have been grouped together under their therapeutic actions and indications. These lists are of course not exhaustive and may be expanded with time. They do, however, include the actions and indications on which most authors seem to agree on. Information about the herbs has come from accepted textbooks (see bibliography) and other published material.
